 Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Minister for highways and small ports minister EV Velu on Thursday launched a mobile application ‘Namma Salai’ that helps identify potholes in the city with public inputs.

In order to achieve the goal of an ‘accident-free’ Tamil Nadu and ensure pothole-free roads, a mobile application to identify the potholes with public help was announced in the demand for grants of the highways department in 2023-24.

Through this app, people can upload photos of potholes in highways along with their geographical coordinates. The will be sent to the engineer and the potholes will be repaired within a stipulated time period. Then, photos of the repaired roads will also be uploaded in the application. The application can also be used to upload the details of fallen trees and floods during the times of natural disasters.

Speaking about the initiative, a senior official from the state Highways department said that the Namma Slai App has been developed in such a way that people can directly inform the authorities about the problems on the roads. They can take a picture and upload it if there are potholes, damages, or other hazards on the road in their living area.

State highways will be repaired within 24 hours and district roads within 72 hours. After the road is repaired, the pictures will also be uploaded in this activity,” according to the Tamil Nadu government.

The app’s functionality is straightforward. Users can easily upload photos of potholes, along with the precise geo-coordinates of the location. These submissions are then transmitted to relevant officials. The pledge is to repair identified potholes within a predetermined time frame. This streamlined approach not only empowers the public but also ensures a rapid response from authorities to address road hazards.

The ‘Namma Salai’ app extends its utility beyond potholes. It permits users to report additional road-related issues, such as fallen trees and flooding during the rainy season. This broader approach underscores the government’s commitment to comprehensive road safety and infrastructure maintenance.

It should be downloaded on the mobile phone and upload a photo of the road condition, buildings near the place, road junctions etc. Mobile phone number should also be mentioned.
